CAIRO, March 14, 2012 – Today Basma Mostafa of The Community Times sat down with AIC Egypt Director Dalia  Ziada to discuss women’s rights in the era of government formation in Egypt.

She stressed the importance of active citizens in advancing the role of Egyptian women. “It’s not solely the responsibility of the government; we need to raise awareness about women’s rights and the significance of their roles in the society,” said Ziada, adding that women have made up a large proportion of protestors in Tahrir and deserve to be a part of the political process.

“Men and women are the wings of the same bird. They both need to put in equal work for the bird to soar,” she noted. We need to gradually prepare the society to accept women in leading roles and to give them the chance to prove their potentials. “In time, the society will change and will begin to believe that women can be influential.”
