Social media is one of the most important global leaps forward in the 21st Century. In the age of Facebook and Twitter, one can say that social media is dominating the lives of millions of people around the world. Social media could change one’s life by helping to find a job or a partner, and more importantly, it could even spark a revolution. Indeed, Facebook was used to spread information, mobilize the masses and promote insurgent agendas during the Arab Spring uprisings.

Social media had a huge impact on people since the early days of the revolution. It affected public opinion and international support through the rapid dissemination of news globally. In this context, AIC held a two days training sessions on social media in the governorate of Kairouan, where they highlighted its importance in animating and mobilizing the community. The training sessions on social media are part of the train the trainer cycle launched in May, 2014 as the final chapter of AIC’s Tune in Tunisia. Tune in Tunisia is a program that aims at increasing civic involvement, citizen understanding of human rights and civic responsibilities while fostering a culture of social entrepreneurship. The training was led by Mohamed Rammeh (http://www.theleader.tn/en/bios/rammah), who is one of the leaders from the second version of Tune in Tunisia project (2.0) that was launched by AIC in 2012.

Over 2 days, twenty participants from Kairouan, mostly students, interacted and enjoyed the workshops and activities held within the sessions. These sessions were made possible by the support of MEPI.

Future trainings will successively take place in Tunis, Beja, Kasserine and Ain Drahem. They will cover important subjects such as financial management, elections monitoring, conflict resolution, employability and soft skills.
