What can a $650 micro-grant from AIC’s Tune in Tunisia program do?

With her micro-grant Tune in Tunisia participant Abir Rouis decided to launch the “Our Elders are Bliss” project to bring Tunisian youth and elderly together. Abir, a 23 year-old aeronautics students, started with an awareness campaign to gather volunteers for the elderly care facility in her town of Jendouba. But the overwhelming positive reaction from her community quickly prompted her to expand her vision.  With the support of the Tunisian Union for Industry, Trade and Handicrafts, business owners, and her fellow citizens, Abir moved to build an entirely new elderly center. Blueprints for the new center, designed pro bono by a local architect, have just been finalized and building will begin shortly. With her $650 micro-grant Amir has not only raised awareness and aided the elderly, she has united her community.
