“Personally, I didn’t expect the huge success of the experience, inviting 20 people to attend the event and then I end up with 80 people there. Time and money were the most challenging, but with the collaboration of my teamwork and the assistance of my family, people who believed in me, my self-confidence and the unforgettable effort made by AIC staff, I contributed in the wave of changes Tunisia is going through”

Rima Dhrif, 21 year-old graduate student in English created a support network of 10 committed volunteers for visually-impaired students, with more than 80 people attending the day of the event. This project recruited students and teachers from four schools in Sousse and Ben Arous for a roundtable, they met watched the documentary produced at the above mentioned schools and discussed afterward a plan for the network. The discussion addressed the challenges faced by the students to create sympathy and awareness, as well as a discussion of the lack of sufficient social services to deepen understanding and spark creative solutions. Participants included students, secondary and primary school teachers of blind pupils, 2 psychologists, and parents of blind children.

During the event, many associations participated & identified the problems that blind children face in their studies and have shown their readiness to help. Medias which were present like “La Radio Culturelle” and “Assahafa” newspaper covered the event. The documentary prepared at the first project is now considered as a reference. It’ll be sent to the ministry of education in order to solve the problems of blinds. People who attended the meeting showed their interest in the network and expressed their willingness to help defending the rights of the blind for a better integration in the civil society.
